Introduction
This website will show how laws about child labor have changed America between the decades of 1920 and 2000. Child labor was a big problem in the 1800’s and the early 1900’s. Children were forced to work for half the pay that adults received, and did harder work. They spun cotton and made clothes. Children were forced to work under terrible conditions, and this caused illness and even the death. America finally changed child labor laws but even this caused controversy. Children were unable to achieve the American Dream because of all the time they were forced to spend to spend in the factories. Their rights were limited and people didn’t care about what happened to them (“Pitting Child Safety”).
In the 2000’s most children are finally able to live the American Dream, and laws prohibit almost all child labor in the United States today. The only child labor today is on family farms, but even this is trying to be eliminated. In this website you will be able to see how times have changed, and how America has adapted to the loss of a major factor in exports (“Pitting Child Safety”).
